MPs Accused Of Preferring Self Interests

Residents of different provinces on Thursday accused some lawmakers of preferring their self-interests against the country’s national interests.

They claimed that MPs made a deal on the impeachment motion brought against head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai who survived a no-confidence vote on Wednesday.

“MPs have never thought about national interests,” said Hikmatullah, a resident of Logar.

“The Afghan parliament has always been involved in major businesses and embezzlements and has exploited votes of people,” claimed a resident of Kabul Mohammad Idris.

“Everyone is tired of the parliament’s activities,” said Kabul resident Matiullah Sarwari.

A monitoring institution meanwhile said it questions the Wolesi Jirga’s, Lower House of Parliament, move on Wednesday in which they decided on the impeachment of the NDS chief while the quorum was incomplete.

“What was observed by our observers indicates that deals were made on that day,” said Atifa Ibrahimi, an observer.

Ibrahimi said 135 MPs were in attendees on the day of Stanekzai’s impeachment, but with the start of the process, only 66 lawmakers voted.
