Peace Activists Consider Protests Near Embassies

The Helmand peace convoy will stage protests in front of some embassies in Kabul if they receive no response from the Taliban for their ceasefire demand.

The deadline set for the Taliban by the peace campaign will end on Friday.

“If their (Taliban) response was not positive, in the second step, we will sit in front of embassies of those countries that people say they support Taliban in terms of money, fighters and have hand in the Afghan war,” Bismillah Watandost, spokesman of the convoy, said.

The peace convoy members said they will stage protest in front of embassies of US, Iran, Russia, UK and Pakistan.

Zemarai Zaland, member of the peace convoy, said he wants to pass on the message of peace to Afghans and to the world.

“I see can see the widows, orphans and the bad situation in the country. So how can I call myself a Muslim if I don’t feel their pain?” said Zemarai.

Kabul residents meet the peace activists every day. Mohammad Azim, a resident of Kabul, said he will pray for peace and stability in the country.

“Hear our voice. We have nothing and no one except the Almighty Allah,” Azim added.

“In my district, a fight began between the Taliban and security forces. Almost 20 to 25 soldiers and seven to 10 Taliban fighters were killed. People buried both soldiers and Taliban’s bodies. Today, the widows and sons of both sides are crying,” said Mohammad Taraki, member of the peace convoy.

Helmand peace activists have walked almost 700 kilometers in 37 days from Helmand to Kabul in quest for peace.
