A British soldier has been shot dead on Saturday while guarding a checkpoint in southern Helmand province, Isaf said.The soldier died the Nahr-e Saraj district of the province, Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie, a spokesman for Taskforce Helmand, said.
His family has been informed.
This death brings the total number of British troops who have died in Afghanistan since the start of the war to 382.
There are around 9,500 UK troops in Afghanistan and most of them are based in southern Helmand province.
