News - Afghanistan

A Nato soldier was killed on Saturday in an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan, Isaf said in a statement.

It did not provide details about the exact location of the incident or the nationality of the soldier.

The death bring the number of foreign troops killed in Afghanistan so far this year to 478, according to icasulateis.org, a website that tracks the number of foreign troop casualties.

US troops make up the majority of this number with 368 soldiers dying this year. The UK has lost 35 soldiers and other countries lost a total of 84 soldiers.

Foreign combat troops will leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014 and Afghan forces will take over responsibility for security.
