A potential suicide bomber linked with the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan was captured in northern Takhar province on Tuesday morning by security forces from the National Directorate of Security, provincial spokesman Mustafa Rasouly said.
The man was arrested in Ashmak district of Takhar in possession of a vest rigged with explosives worn for suicide attacks, he told TOLOnews.
Meanwhile, a senior Taliban leader was detained during a joint Afghan and Nato troop operations in southern Helmand province.
The Taliban senior leader was captured while Afghan and Nato troops were conducting an operation in Helmand's Kajaki district, Isaf said in a statement Tuesday.
The leader planned, directed and executed attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the region, it said, but it did not give any further information or the so-called leader's identity.
The joint forces also detained several suspected insurgents during the same operation, Isaf said.
