The former sub-governor of Maroof district and the Kandahar deputy mayor were killed in two separate attacks in the southern Kandahar province

In the first incident that occurred on Monday afternoon in Kariz Bazar area of Kandahar city, the provincial capital of Kandahar province, Noor Ahmad Nazari, the Deputy Mayor of Kandahar died of severe injuries, Tooryalai Wisa, the governor of Kandahar, told TOLOnews reporter.

In the second incident, Haji Habibullah, a member of Kandahar Clerics Council and the former Head of Maroof district was killed by unknown gunmen on Monday evening, he added.

Local police officials said they have so far arrested no one in connection to the incident.

Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Meanwhile, in three consecutive explosions in Kandahar, two police were killed and nine others were wounded.

The explosions occurred near Mirwais Nika high school on Monday night in Kandahar city, Zalmai Ayubi, a spokesman for the governor of Kandahar told TOLOnews on Tuesday.

A civilian is also wounded in the incident, he said.

Violence has increased recently in Kandahar, as Afghan and coalition forces have conducted a series of attacks targeting insurgents in the province.
