
Insurgent activity is threatening several remote districts of eastern Nangarhar province provincial police chief, Abdullah Stanikzai, said on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference, Stanikzai said that Shirzad, Khogyani, Hesarak, Pacheragam and Chaparhar districts are facing insurgent threats.
"These five districts are facing high levels of threat from insurgents planting roadside mines and ambushing security forces," Stanikzai told reporters.
He added that insurgents are using IEDs to ambush Afghan and foreign troop but civilians face the largest threat. In most of the cases, the insurgents are killing civilians and accusing them of working for the government.
1,500 policemen will be deployed to the remote districts after 200 weapons and 133kg of explosive devices were seized in the past two months.
