Two suicide bombers have detonated their improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at a Kunar provincial council compound on Wednesday morning, killing one civilians and injuring three others, according to provincial spokesman Wasifullah Wasify.

The incident occurred at 10:30 am local time when the bomber "detonated their explosive outside the compound as the council was meeting inside," Wasify said. "No member of the council were injured in the attack," he added.

The dead and wounded were taken to a nearby hospital.

A military spokesman in the province said the suicide bombers targeted the military commander, but he survived the attack.

"Two Afghan soldiers were wounded in the attack, the commander is alive and safe," he said.

In a joint Afghan and Nato operation on Tuesday night, nine insurgents were killed in the Marora district of the province, the 202 Shamshad police district Press Office released.

Three civilians also were injured during the attack.
