Police detained two groups of thieves in Kabul city and nine kidnappers in a special operation in the Paghman and Surobi districts of Kabul.
Police had freed a 17-year-old boy, Nezamuddin, from the kidnappers two days ago. He had been kidnapped from the city's Khushal Khan area, and his captors demanded $400,000, police said.
"Last Thursday, I was in the bazaar when, suddenly, three men forced me into a vehicle, telling me someone wanted to meet me," Nezamuddin said.
Police also freed an Indian doctor, his Afghan colleague and a driver who had been kidnapped from the Surobi district. Four men have been arrested in connection with the crime, said Gen. Ayub Salangi, Kabul police chief.
