President Hamid Karzai met with the Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjoo Sunday afternoon in Kabul to discuss relations between the two countries, Karzai's office said.
"President Karzai and Majid Namjoo discussed the economic cooperation between the two countries," the office said in a statement.
Earlier, Namjoo met the Afghan Minister of Energy and Water Mohammad Ismail Khan and inaugurated the installation of two power generators in Kabul city which were gifts from Iran.
The generators have the capacity to produce 50 megawatts of electricity per hour and consume 18,000 litres of fuel per hour.
The Afghan minister said that the generators will only be used in emergency situations.
Ismail Khan further revealed that the Iranian government has agreed to increase the level of electricity imported to western Afghanistan from Iran from the current 90 megawatts to 140 megawatts.
Namjoo said he was invited by the Afghan government to talk with energy officials on how to increase the level of electricity imported to western Afghanistan from his country.
