Afghanistan is making effort s to become one of the main transit routes for Central Asian countries, Afghan Ministry of Commerce and Industries says.

Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industries, Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi during an interview with Turkmenistan's national television said that he had informed the Turkmen President that Afghanistan wanted to become one of the main transit routes in Central Asia.

Besides taking over security responsibilities, Afghans will also take helm of the economic affairs in the country by the end of 2014.

The Afghan government is making more and more efforts to make use of the strategic place of Afghanistan to turn it a main route for transit of merchandise from Central Asia to other countries.

"Different dimensions of the TAPI gas pipeline project was also one of the main agendas of my meeting with the Turkmen President and we emphasised on its national and international importance," Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industries, Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi, said.

According to some other Turkmen media, seeking political solutions for Afghanistan, economic and social rehabilitation and development were also discussed in the meeting.

The two sides have also discussed about Ata Murad-Imam Nazar railway to be extended from Turkmenistan to Andkhoi in the north of Afghanistan.
