The Council of Ministers recently sent a document to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in which it asked for the fake and copied voting cards to be removed from their information database, and for a new list of voters to be provided.

Reacting to the council's request, the IEC has said that its activities should be respected. It is not clear why the commission reacted negatively.
The Council of Ministers has also confirmed that the electronic ID cards – which are expected to be issued to all Afghans – will be the alternative to the voting cards.
