Balkh Governor Ata Mohammad Noor expressed his support for the potential participation of Hizb-e-Islami in the elections and said he could ally with the party to "safeguard democracy."

In an exclusive interview with TOLOnews, he said that he welcomes any party, including Hizb-e-Islami, to participate in the presidential elections.

Afghan Lawmakers on Sunday condemned President Karzai's lack of support for the publication of a major human rights report, with one senator calling it "treason."

The 800-page report is the most extensive documentation of human rights violations in Afghanistan, covering the period from before the 1978 Soviet invasion until the ouster of the Taliban in late 2001. The report implicates most key Afghan power-brokers in the current government as well as insurgent leaders fighting the government for serious human rights abuses.

Afghanistan's relations with the rest of the world – including the regional and international organisations – after 2014 will be based on the signed pacts, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Sunday.

The ministry has stated that the special situation in Afghanistan over the past years caused the country's foreign policy priorities and the manner of cooperation with other countries to be independent of each other.
