A group of more than 20 Afghan civil society organizations Wednesday urged the Afghan government not to allow human rights violators to participate in the upcoming elections.

"We are concerned that insurgents and those who committed crimes against humanity may have a role in the elections. The government should have a specific strategy to identify them," said Ajmal Ballochzada, a civil society activist.

At least two civilians and a policeman were killed and seven civilians injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at a Nato base in the eastern Khost province Wednesday morning, local officials said.

The incident took place about 08:00 AM local time near the gate of an old airport now used as Nato base, provincial police chief, Abdul Qayoum Baqizai said.
