Presidential officials announced that President Karzai left Kabul for Tehran on Thursday to attend a tripartite regional summit hosted by the Iranian government.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance and National Security Advisor will accompany the Afghan President on his visit to Iran to address in a meeting among three neighbouring nations which is called to be the fourth trilateral summit.

Deputy spokesperson for the President, Hamed Elmi, said President Karzai will hold talks with his Iranian and Tajik counterparts to discuss cracking down terrorism, regional cooperation, fighting against drugs smuggling, and also to talk about Afghan refugees situation in Iran.

The classified US military logs leaked by the WikiLeaks suggest that Iran arms insurgents against foreign troops fighting insurgency in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have strongly dismissed the reports and as always have termed it not more than allegations.

The Afghan President, Hamid Karzai journeys to Iran when there were reports broadcast worldwide that the Iranian President had come under an attack, that was later denied by Iranian officials.
