Afghan MPs on Wednesday said that the ones involved in the recent Koran burning at Bagram Airbase must be brought to justice.

It comes as demonstrators massed for a second day in protest of reports that copies of the Koran had been burnt at Bagram Airbase, the biggest US base in Afghanistan.

The Afghan House of Representatives strongly condemned the incident and urged international community, especially the United States to take serious measures to prevent such actions in the future.

Meanwhile, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has told the House Speaker by phone that he will hold a meeting with MPs and Senators tomorrow to discuss the incident.

MPs called the Koran burning a pre-planned and organised action by some foreign circles, but did not elaborate.

The House called on the government to order an investigation to find out what hidden conspiracy is behind the incident.

"We strongly condemn the action which is an insult to more than two billion Muslims in the world. Those responsible for the incident must be brought to justice," Abdul Qayoun Sajjadi, representative of Ghazni province in parliament, said.
Some MPs also alleged that some of the neighbouring countries may have been behind the incident.

Meanwhile, the protests continued despite an immediate apology yesterday from the top Isaf commander in Afghanistan, General John Allen, and another apology from US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta.

Pentagon spokesman George Little told reporters on Tuesday that the actions did not represent the views of the United States military.

Protests were held on Wednesday on the outskirts of Kabul, in Jalalabad in the east of the country and Herat in the west.
