The head of Kapisa’s Women Affairs Department has said that eleven men on Friday night gang raped two women in Kohistan district of the province.

The incident happened in Jamal Agha village of Kohistan district.

Shakiba Saifi, the head of Kapisa Women Affairs Department said that the probe team has not been sent to the area so far due to security threats, however police officials confirmed that the victims are currently under the protection of police.

“Eleven men have carried out the rape,” said Saifi.

Police officials in Kapisa have said that seven suspects of the incidents have been arrested and investigations are underway to get to the bottom of the tragic event.

“We managed to arrest seven suspects in connection to the gang rape, our investigations are ongoing,” said Shaqayeq Shoresh, a spokesman for Kapisa Police Headquarters.

The women had gone to the area for vacation from Kabul.

Meanwhile, one of the victims claimed that the security guards of Khadija Elham, a member of Afghan parliament, were involved in the rape.

Despite several attempts, TOLOnews could not reach Khadija Elham to comment on the allegations.

“I recognized five of them who carried out the rape, but I don’t recognize the remaining ones, I was in a bad situation,” said one of the victims.

“This girl (the second victim) was also taken to the other room, three people followed her, they (the accused) said that they are mafia and robbers, they (the accused) also said that we are the security guards of Khadija Elham,” added the victim.

“A rape has occurred by eleven people, currently police are investigating the incident, the demands of people in Kapisa is to serve justice, because we never saw any tragic incident like this in Kapisa,” said Mahfouz Safai, the deputy head of Kapisa's provincial council.

“Our expectation from the local and central government is to take firm action against such shameful incidents. Justice must be served on the perpetrators regardless of whom they serve,” said Qazi Ahmadi, a university lecturer.
