125 Taliban fighters joined the peace process in Charkint district of Balkh province, the 209 Shaheen Army Corps said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Taliban fighters laid down their arms following efforts made by Charkint district governor Salima Mazari and the tribal elders in the area,” the statement said.
Charkint is not a secure district.
Local officials have expressed hope that the joining of the Taliban fighters will help to improve the security situation in the fragile district.
