Security Force Members Escape from Taliban Custody in Zabul

Local officials in Zabul said that 43 people, mostly security force members, detained by the Taliban in Shahjoy district, escaped on Sunday and fled to government-controlled areas.

The governor of Zabul, Mohammad Nabi Ahmadzai, said the security forces had been captured by the Taliban on the highway, and he confirmed that they were able to break out from the group's detention and escape.

Ahmadzai said that 42 of the 43 people who escaped were members of the Afghan army and police.

According to local officials, the detention area is located in the Shabar area of Shahjoy district.

A number of those who escaped said they were tortured by the Taliban.

Meanwhile, some members who escaped from prison said they are ready to return to their duties.
