Afghan, Uzbek Officials Meet in Kabul, Sign Agreements

Sardor Umurzakov, Uzbekistan's deputy prime minister and minister of Investments and foreign trade, arrived in Kabul on Tuesday and met with President Ashraf Ghani and other Afghan officials. 

In his meeting with Ghani, Umurzakov said his country supports the peace process and the Afghan government’s plans, the Palace said in a statement. 

The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral, economic and trade ties as well as cultural cooperation between the two countries, the Palace said.  

The Uzbek delegation attended a ceremony at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday afternoon that marked the National Day of the Uzbek language in Afghanistan.

“After over 100 years of distance, today Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have unbreakable ties,” Ghani said at the event. “Afghanistan that has always had historical, cultural and economic relations with five Central Asian nations, today the relations are strengthening day by day.” 

The Uzbekistan deputy prime minister also met with acting Foreign Affairs Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.  

The Uzbek delegation signed cooperation agreements with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock and the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled, said Grand Hewad, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
