Kabul: Armed Robbers Kill Businessman, Wound 2 in Broad Daylight

Armed robbers on Thursday killed a businessman in Police District 1 (PD1) of Kabul city and wounded two more, eyewitnesses said on Thursday, as crime-weary residents blasted Afghan security agencies for their failure to stem rising crime rates.

Shopkeepers and eyewitnesses said the robbers managed to escape the scene after looting the businessman.

Meanwhile, business owners and merchants in Kabul staged a protest in PD1 and warned that such protests will continue until the government ensures the security and safety of their lives and property.

Merchants said there are only a few meters of distance between the PD1 and the Presidential Palace, however, the police are not capable of ensuring the security of the public.

“A shopkeeper was martyred, two more are at the hospital,” said Mujtaba, an eyewitness.

“I request Mr. Amrullah Saleh to be serious,” said Najib, an eyewitness.

Economists have said that if the government does not ensure the security of the business community, then the businessmen will flee the country.
