Woman Killed for Giving Birth to A Girl: Ministry

A woman was killed by her husband for giving birth to a girl, the Afghan Ministry of Interior said on Saturday, adding that the incident happened in Yaka Toot area in Kabul’s PD9 on Friday.

Her husband, Fraidoon, has escaped his home with his newly born daughter after killing his wife.

Faraidoon’s neighbors said he was local counselor in his area and has two daughters.

“Faraidoon was recently appointed as street representative. He was not the son of any smuggler and was not a drug addict or robber. There were no family issues among them, but he has killed his wife,” said Haroon, a resident of the area.

According to the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), 1241 cases of violence against women have been registered over the least ten months. Of the figure, 281 were brutal acts of violence that include 165 murders.

Religious scholars said that lack of awareness among the people about Islamic principles leads to such “brutal acts” of violence against women.

“This takes roots from ignorance, lack of education. This man will be cursed by God,” said Mawlavi Zabihullah Haqyar, a religious scholar.

Kabul police said the woman’s husband is on the run and police will arrest him soon.
