Four security force members, including Naqibullah Sultanzai, the police chief of Ghorian district, were killed in an attack by the Taliban on the center of the province on Thursday evening, said a local official.
The attack was carried out by dozens of Taliban fighters on the district governor building and police headquarters of Ghorian district and continued for many hours, said Mohammad Sardar Bahaduri, member of Herat Provincial Council.
He said that four security force members, including the police chief, were killed and four more were wounded.
Herat security officials have not commented on the attack.
The attack comes days after the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan traveled to Doha to resume the second round of the peace negotiations.
