Kabul: 66 Killed in Criminal Incidents Over 6 Months

Figures by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) indicate that 66 people were killed and over 400 more were wounded in criminal incidents in Kabul over the last six months.

Kabul police said figures show that 11 people were killed and 30 more were wounded in the last 30 days.

Qais Ahmad, a shopkeeper, said armed robbers attacked his shop a month ago and injured him and stole his money. He said he has not reopened his shop because he is afraid.

“I am shocked. I cannot go to the shop. I ask the government to arrest the robbers and send them to justice. How long should this continue?” Qais Ahmad said.

Naqibullah Amini, a Kabul resident, says he was wounded in an attack by unknown armed robbers who took his car, phone and money.

“The security in the city is worse… We were attacked during the day,” Amiri added.

Figures by Kabul police show that 128 criminal incidents have occurred in Kabul since December 21, 2020, in which 11 people were killed, 18 were wounded and 266 suspects were arrested.

“The first (robbery) we pulled was Afs3,000 mobile recharge cards. I was not given my part of that money,” said Jailani, a suspect arrested on charges of robbery.

“We robbed three shops in PD11, three shops in PD15, we took five or six phones and we had an illegal weapon,” said Zabihullah, a suspect arrested on charges of robbery.

Officials at Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital said that they admitted 200 wounded patients from crime incidents in Kabul in a month two months ago, but the figure has reduced to 100 people a month.

The officials said that one victim's body and 98 wounded victims, including 16 women, have been admitted to the hospital since December 31, 2020.

“Before the start of the 6:30 meetings (held by the first vice president), we had patients from over 200 crime incidents, but after the meetings started, we have at least 101 cases a month who were stabbed,” said Haris Arif, a doctor at Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital.

Figures by the Kabul Public Health Directorate indicate that Herat and Kabul have had the highest number of crime incidents over the last six months. The figures show that 69 people including 11 women have been killed in Herat and 2,152 more have been wounded.
