The Attorney General's Office on Wednesday reported that two members of Afghanistan’s Wolesi Jirga— (the lower house of Parliament) have been referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission for providing misleading information about the registration of their assets.

The AGO spokesman said Wednesday that an investigation is underway to determine the real assets of these members of parliament.

Sources have said that the names of the two parliament members accused of providing misleading information are Ahmad Shah Ramazan and Nasima Niazai.

The anti-corruption commission has said that the suspects should come and provide clarification about the millions of Afs in their bank accounts.

“There are also several other cases under our investigation that may also involve high-ranking officials and lower-ranking officials,” said Abdul Qayoum Nizami, the head of the anti-corruption commission.

“Two members of the Wolesi Jirga have been referred to the Attorney General’s Office by the Anti-Corruption Commission to be investigated for providing misleading information about their assets in the assets registration forms,” said Jamshid Rasouli, a spokesman for the AGO.

Meanwhile, MP Ahmad Shah Ramazan has said that he will be accountable for his assets before the law.

“I will return to Afghanistan in two days, I will be responsive to the law or the notification,” said MP Ahmad Shah Ramazan.

Another suspect, Nasima Niazai, has not commented so far.
