34 Freed from Taliban Prison in Herat

Thirty-four Afghan security force members and civilians were freed from a Taliban prison in an operation by Afghan commandos in Herat province on Tuesday night, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Wednesday. 

The operation was launched in Adraskan district in the province in which “six Taliban were killed, and their weapons and ammunition were seized."

“11 army soldiers, seven policemen, three Afghan Air Force members, seven workers of a project, seven government employees and a public uprising force member were freed from the prison,” the ministry said. 

“The Taliban prison was destroyed during the operation,” the ministry said. 

Herat governor Waheed Qatali said “the operation was conducted at around 11pm last night in Karocha village in Adraskan district and was continued into early Wednesday.” 

“The security forces had no casualties during the operation,” he said. 

The Taliban so far has not commented on the operation.
