Prominent Afghan politicians at a gathering on Saturday sought end to the internal rift among the country’s political leaders, saying that it has deteriorated the security situation in Afghanistan. 

The politicians said the rifts must end and the people should not be sacrificed anymore. 

“For the sake of this oppressed nation whose sons are martyred every day, stop the war now and prevent further suffering of the people,” the head of the Hizb-e-Islami party, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, said. 

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mojadadei, head of Hizb-e-Nejat-e-Milli party, said that some politicians within the government are supporting war drum instead of focusing on a political solution to the conflict. 

These people are also involved in the distribution of weapons outside the framework of the government, Mojaddedi said, warning that such a move will have serious consequences for the country’s future. 

“Their own children are not killed on the frontlines; they think that if peace comes, they could no longer remain,” he added. 

“I ask my brothers to continue supporting Afghan women. Women once have remained the victims of war and they cannot afford this time to be sacrificed for peace,” said Moghgan Mustafawi, former deputy minister of information and culture. 

This comes two days after Abdullah Abdullah, head of the reconciliation council, warned that the system will collapse if Afghan leaders do not forge a consensus on the issues of national importance.
