Unity Can Help Fix Current Crisis: Speaker Rahmani

The speaker of Afghanistan’s Wolesi Jirga (the lower house of Parliament), Mir Rahman Rahmani, on Thursday said that the only way to address the current challenges in the country is with unity.

At a gathering in Bagram district north of Kabul, Rahmani said that the political leaders in the north are now united against the Taliban and that the people will soon mobilize against the Taliban.

Rahmani expressed his full support for the security forces and said that the elders of Parwan will not allow the Taliban to take over the province.

Meanwhile, the Parwan governor said that all the people in Parwan are ready to resist any Taliban hostility.

“I want to clearly say that some problems were due to the government ... there were problems were with our politicians, we had no consensus at a national level,” said Rahmani.

“We will not commit aggression against anyone, we will not go to any province, but if someone attacks us, we will defend ourselves,” said Rahmani.

“We should always be in a defensive position, we should be alert,” said Fazluddin Ayar, the governor of Parwan.

“We are a free nation, we will not accept slavery--we accept our death, but not slavery,” said Aminullah Shakoori, the head of Parwan's provincial council.
