Afghan citizens on Saturday criticized the United States's presence in Afghanistan, saying the US was committed to bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan when it came 20 years ago, but the country is still impoverished and has many other challenges.

According to residents, the US presence was not fruitful for Afghanistan.

Kabul resident Yar Mohammad said: “ They (the US) spent 20 years here, it is a long time, they have done nothing for us.

Asadullah, 80, said his life has not positively changed over the last two decades. He still lives in poverty.

"My life has not changed. Nothing happened to my life. Even if they spent 50 years, there would not have been any benefits,” he said.

The residents also criticized the US forces' withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Lina Nazari said: “ I do not know why they left us at this critical juncture. I think it was in their interest to go.”

Several Afghans who spoke to TOLOnews are optimistic about the future. They hope the country will not witness more war and instability.
