Afghan People Call for Govt Offices to Open

Even though the Taliban announced a 33-member caretaker cabinet last week, most government offices have not resumed services, residents complained on Sunday.

Speaking to TOLOnews, the residents called on the Taliban to immediately provide services so citizens' problems can be addressed.

Noor Agha, who is from Herat province, along with several others is waiting for the passport office to be opened.

He intends to leave for Pakistan to receive medical treatment.

Noor Agha told TOLOnews: “The department is closed. They do not distribute passports. I am sick, I want to go Pakistan.”

Another resident, Sayed Wali, said: “ Those who are appointed have to begin work. People have many problems.”

Officials from the passport department said they are waiting to receive directions from the Ministry of Interior.

The problem not only applies to the capital city of Kabul. Kunduz residents are encountering the same challenges. The residents are waiting for the reopening of the banks in the province.

Amir Mohammad said: “I have a remittance. The banks are shut. People face many challenges.”

Meanwhile, officials at the Taliban Cultural Commission said people who were recently appointed have started working, and their offices are going to offer services soon.

Anaamullah Samangani said: “Since yesterday, the caretakers (people appointed) have been trying to collect information about their areas. After this, they will officially start working.”

Government offices have remained closed since the Taliban takeover.
