UN to Hold Meeting on Afghanistan

The United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting on November 17 to discuss Afghanistan, specifically the economy and the issue of human rights.

Tass News, citing the UN security council, said the meeting will also talk about sending humanitarian aid to vulnerable people in Afghanistan.

At the same time, the officials of the Islamic Emirate said the international countries are expected to report on the current facts about Afghanistan and take steps to engage with new government.

“They have to honor and release the facts which exist now in Afghanistan and take steps to tighten relations and engage with Afghanistan,” said Inamullah Samangani, the deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.

The meeting comes as United Nations agencies repeatedly warn of a possible humanitarian catastrophe ahead of the coming winter in Afghanistan.

“The United Nations is pursuing two goals by holding this meeting, first, to prevent the collapse of the economy in Afghanistan. Second...to do its responsibility, said Zaher Salangi, Former MP.

Wali Frozan, international relations expert, said: “Political and health issues, and as well as women's right to education, and the Afghan people's access to food are expected to be main topics at the meeting,”

Based on the statistics of the United Nations, 95 percent of Afghans are living under the poverty line, and more than $9 billion of Afghanistan’s reserves are blocked in outside banks.
