Child Trapped in Well in Zabul for 3 Days Has Died

A child trapped in a well for three days in the capital of Zabul province has died, officials said on Friday.

Haidar, 6, fell into a well in Jaldak village in Qalat city. The photos and videos of the scene in which Haidar was crying went viral on social media.

Several rescue teams in cooperation with residents made attempts to rescue Haidar.

According to the residents, the well is 50 meters deep.

Following the circulation of videos and photos of the scene, a high-level delegation of the Islamic Emirate, including the acting Minister of Defense Mullah Mohammad Yaqob and former Qatar-based political office member Anas Haqqani visited Zabul to monitor the rescue operations.

“When we arrived here yesterday, we talked with the teams who came from the Ministry of Public Health. The governor was also here, we talked about how to immediately rescue the child,” said the acting Minister of Defense.

“The government did whatever it could to save the child, but unfortunately he couldn’t be saved,” Haqqani said.

Haidar’s body remained in the well for 96 hours.

“We have brought the rescuers who have never come here before. We have tried to save his life,” said a witness.

The child was buried on Friday afternoon in Zabul.
