Memory of Abdul Ali Mazari Honored in Kabul

Dozens of Kabul residents held a gathering on Monday to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the death of Abdul Ali Mazari, the former head of Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Afghanistan.

The participants at the ceremony described Abdul Ali Mazari as a patriot and a pacifist.

The participants also called on the Islamic Emirate to work on nation-building in Afghanistan.

“We urge the Islamic Emirate to work on nation-building and a national identity in which all ethnic groups like Pashtoon, Hazara, Tajik, Uzbek, Sadat and others can introduce their identity as ‘Afghan,’ and this is not doable with slogans,” said Jawad Hussaini, the head of the Development and Justice Party.

Participants further said that he had always pursued a lasting peace in Afghanistan.

“Whatever he said, he would do--it was his character. He repeatedly said that women are half of society and he created a committee named the Women's Committee in his political party. He wanted justice, equality and brotherhood.” said Sakhi Behzad, head of the political committee of the Development and Justice Party.

Abdul Ali Mazari, former head of the Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Afghanistan was killed in 1995.
