Afghan students who left the country during the collapse of the former government have received diplomas from the University of Sulaimani in Iraq.

32 students graduated, and the ceremony was attended by Iraq President Barham Salih, who said that he wished Afghanistan would reach an enduring peace.

"Our children ... who joined us and enriched the life of this university, I congratulate you for your success. We are proud of you, " he said.

"32 students from the American University of Afghanistan will receive their diplomas from that university at the same time as our students," said Bruce Walker Ferguson, head of the University of Sulaimani.

The students graduated from various faculties including the faculty of computer science, faculty of law, political science and business administration.

Meanwhile, some students at AUAF expressed concerns over their uncertain future.
"When the Taliban first came to Afghanistan, I personally thought that my career, future and my education had ended, so coming to AUAF... was like a hope for me to restart and finish my education," said Shakila Mohammadi, an Afghan student.

After the fall of the former government, many AUAF students were taken to Iraq and Kyrgyzstan.
