Fearing more earthquakes in the province, many residents in Paktika's Giyan district have left their houses. Some of these families reside in tents, while others have no shelter.

In Giyan, the majority of the homes have either entirely collapsed or have been damaged in some way.

People now living in tents talk about the difficulties they face.

"Five members of this house were martyred and two others were injured. Twelve people were martyred in the other house, and six in the nearest house,” said a resident of Paktika.

“This is my house, five members of my family have been martyred, my father, my wife, my two daughters and one of my brothers has been martyred,” said a member of the affected family in Paktika.

The recent earthquake victims in Paktika, however, say that the way in which relief is being distributed around the province is unfair.

“Some people have received aid and some others have not. I have not received even one Afghani myself and no one has given it to us,” said another resident of Paktika.

According to available numbers, 3,000 houses in Bermal and Giyan districts of Paktika were completely destroyed, while hundreds more were damaged.
