US President Joe Biden in a letter to Congress on Wednesday said that he will officially rescind Afghanistan's designation as a major non‑NATO ally.

“In accordance with section 517 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended (22 U.S.C. 2321k), I am providing notice of my intent to rescind the designation of Afghanistan as a Major Non‑NATO Ally,” Biden said in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

According to the US Department of State, only 18 countries including Pakistan are Non‑NATO Allies of US.

“The Islamic Emirate’s closer ties with countries such as Moscow, Iran and other countries made the relations between US and Islamic Emirate cold which resulted in such a decision,” said Sayed Jawad Husseini, political analyst.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate said that it will engage with the world based on moderate relations.

“We don’t want to be under the structure from which Afghans don’t have good memories. We will engage with the world through diplomatic and balanced paths,” said Bilal Karimi, the deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, said that it is too early to consider the recognition of the Islamic Emirate. However some countries are normalizing their relations.

“I think there is actually a global consensus to include Moscow and Beijing and Iran that it is too early to look at recognition,” he said.
