Imran Khan’s Party Secures 15 of 20 Chairs in Punjab Elections

The party of the former Pakistan prime minister, Imran Khan, won 15 of 20 seats in the state assembly elections in Punjab.

After his party seized control of Punjab, one of the country’s most populous provinces, Khan called for an early election to be held. Of the remaining seats in Punjab, the Muslim League won four, and an independent won the fifth.

Pakistani analysts said that it is possible that Khan could win a nationwide election.

“The results of the election show that Khan’s statement in which he talked about the foreigners’ interference against his government is heard and accepted by the people,” said Tahir Khan, a Pakistani journalist.

“A lot of the people are supporting Imran Khan and this success is good news for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and it is bad news for the Muslim League,” said Ansar Abas, a political analyst on Pakistan’s affairs.

The impact of the situation in Pakistan on Afghanistan was discussed.

“The policy of Pakistan toward Afghanistan is made by the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence( and changes in parties will not have a significant impact on the Afghan situation,” said Sayed Javad Sijadi, a political analyst.

“The Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has tribal and cultural relations with Afghanistan and Imran Khan’s coming to power can bring positive results to the Taliban government,” said Mehdi Afzali, a political analyst.
