Complaints Persist About Slow Passport Distribution

Citizens complain that after registering for passports they have been waiting for months to receive them.

People also complained about the lack of family group applications on the passport department's internet page and say this causes problems while registering.

"The asked one of us at one date and asked another one at a different date and that is a big problem that they don’t have a family package,” said Farid Ullah Ahmad Zai, an applicant.

“We registered four months ago, now it’s our term,” said Mohammad Yonis, applicant.

Other applicants said that passport department agencies in the provinces are still not active.

“We have patient, we need passports and there are thousands of people that have the same problem, they have to solve the problem,” said Sief Ahmad, applicant.

Meanwhile the passport department said that for solutions to this problem they need to hire new employees.

“Our technical team is trying in this area and maybe we need to hire new employees for the solution to this problem,” said Nor Ullah Pathman.

On the other side, applicants for electronic birth certificates in Kabul said that the printing and distribution process of electronic birth certificates has stopped.

“We came this morning and still there is no distribution for now and the date of distribution is unknown,” said Sami Ullah, one of the applicants.

“The distribution stage has stopped for now because of technical problems,” said Zabih Ullah, an applicant.

The National Statistics and Information Authority spokesman said that technical issues in the printing house is the reason that distribution has stopped.

“For now, in all provinces around the country we have 71 agencies and in the capital there are 17 agencies that are active,” said Halim Rafi, spokesman for the NSIA.

According to officials of the passport department, at least four thousand passports are distributed daily.
