Iran FM Calls for Inclusive Govt in Afghanistan

The Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, called for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan in which all ethnic groups participate as necessary to establish peace and stability in the country, Iranian media reported.

Abduollahian made the remarks in a Zoom meeting with his New Zealand counterpart Nanaia Mahuta.

But the Islamic Emirate said that its current government represents all ethnic groups in Afghanistan. It also suggested that foreign countries not interrupt Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

“The changes which are made at the level of the cabinet and politics include representatives of all tribes. Pashtuns, Tajik, Uzbek, Turkmen. Nuristani and Baluches are present (in the government.) We have all the tribes in our government, is this what inclusivity is? But if it means to include political parties in the government which we had in the past 20 years, we did not have a good experience ... They will harm the government,” said Islamic Emirate’s Spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid.

Sayed Ishaq Gailani, the leader of the National Solidarity Movement of Afghanistan, said that the Islamic Emirate itself should make a decision about the formation of an inclusive government.

“There is no doubt that the government is Afghan-inclusive. All tribes are included. The Islamic Emirate itself should make a decision about it--it is not for others give us opinions of how to make our government,” he said.

The call for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan has been made by many world countries, but the Islamic Emirate considered it interference in the country’s internal affairs, saying that its cabinet is inclusive.
