Shaheen: Doha Office Plays Vital Role in Intl Relations

Suhail Shaheen, the head of the Islamic Emirate’s political office in Qatar, said that the office has played a vital role in interactions between Kabul and the international community.

Shaheen said the Doha office held various meetings with envoys of many countries in an aim to strengthen relations between Afghanistan’s current government and world.

“The political office has played a good role in forming relations with the world, it has a vital role and has made an effort in this regard and will continue in the future,” said Suhail Shaheen.

He added that members of the office have consistently tried to improve relations with the international community.

“We had meetings on various topics with different countries’ representatives and ambassadors who are visiting Qatar or with delegations that come--or are already present in Qatar,” said Suhail Shaheen, head of the Islamic Emirate’s political office in Qatar.

On the other hand, some political analysts believe that the Doha Office has had minimal results in engaging with the international community.

“The office just being used for the negotiations between Taliban and United State, and it has not a good role in peace talks with the republic government,” said Ahmad Khan Andar, political analyst.

“The Doha office cannot work on the engagement process, it means that this is not the office’s work,” said Aziz Maarij, political analyst.

The Islamic Emirate’s political office in Qatar opened in 1392/2013 for peace negotiations between the US and Afghanistan.

Over one year has passed since the Islamic Emirate’s takeover, but still no country has officially announced recognition of the current government.
