Students Celebrate World Teachers' Day at Kabul Schools

Students, teachers and other educational officials celebrated World Teachers' Day as schools for female students above grade six remain closed in Afghanistan.

The day is being celebrated as teachers complain about their economic condition, calling on the government to address their problems.

TOLOnews interviewed Shabeer Ahmad Shirzad, who has been working as teacher for the past 13 years.

Shirzad expressed frustrations that the promises which are given to the teachers have not been fulfilled yet.

“We have a big problem which is a financial problem. The money which we receive monthly is not enough. There are health and education problems,” he said.

Shirzad is one of the thousands of teachers who have been facing severe economic challenges.

“If the current government solves the economic problems of the teachers, they will be motivated to serve the sons of this country,” he added.

“Education is a phenomenon which cultivates humanity,” said Rahmatullah Zubair, head of the department of Vice and Virtue of Kabul.
