Officials: Delay in Passport Distribution is Temporary

As the public voices concern over the halt of passport distribution in the country, the General Directorate of Passports said that the delay in the distribution of passports is temporary and the process will resume after technical problems are resolved.

Noorullah Patman, the spokesperson of the directorate, added that efforts are ongoing to facilitate the process of distributing passports to people.

"Until the end of technical work and equipment repair, the General Directorate of Passports will be closed. Once the issue is resolved, it will reopen. Our technical teams are working in this area so that the passport directorate can soon reopen to our citizens,” Patman said.

Meanwhile, some passport applicants complained that they have to wait for months to get a passport, and now that this process has stopped, their problems have increased.

Mohammad Kabir, a passport applicant, said that he had been unable to get his passport for more than two months. He urged the officials to begin the process as quickly as possible.

“We ask the directorate of passports to show us a way: where to go, what to do to get a passport so that we can transfer our patients outside the country,” Mohammad Kabir said.

“We ask the general director of passports and officials of the Islamic Emirate to open the passport office as soon as possible,” said Nasibullah Alishigi, a resident of Kabul.

"We want the passport office to be reopened as soon as possible,” said Abdul Qasim, another resident of Kabul.

The directorate of passports said on Friday that the issuance of passports has been halted indefinitely.

The passport directorate officials denied the lack of passport booklets and said that there is no problem in this regard.

According to the directorate's figures, the directorate of passports has issued more than 700,000 passports to citizens since the Islamic Emirate was established.
