Kabul Urges UN to Treat Nations Fairly, Resist Influence of 'Powers'

October 24 marks United Nations Day and on Monday the Islamic Emirate urged the United Nations to treat all countries including Afghanistan fairly.

Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for Islamic Emirate, said that the United Nations should provide the basis for an official interaction between the Islamic Emirate with the world, saying it must hand over Afghanistan’s seat to the Islamic Emirate.

“The United Nations must use its prestige in a healthy and effective way, it should not come under the influence of powers (powerful countries), and should act fairly with countries,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for Islamic Emirate.

The United Nations was founded in 1945 after World War II.

Afghan diplomats acknowledged the role of the United Nations on Afghanistan.

“Afghanistan is currently in the phase of diplomacy, this phase includes negotiations and the facilitation of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. I think the United Nations has acted successfully in this regard for Afghanistan,” said Norullah Raghi, former Afghan diplomat.

Meanwhile, a number of university lecturers and students held a gathering to commemorate United Nations Day in Kabul.

“The United Nations attempts to satisfy the involved parties via negotiations to reach common ground,” said Muhsin Rashid, a lecturer.

UNAMA is the representative office of the United Nations in Afghanistan.

One year after the founding of the United Nations, Afghanistan became a member during the reign of Mohammad Zaher Shah, but the Islamic Emirate currently has no official representative in the UN.
