OIC Opens Mission in Kabul

The Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) opened a mission in Kabul with a ceremony attended by senior officials of the Islamic Emirate and OIC representatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan Muttaqi, said the office would play an important role in the improvement of relations between Afghanistan and Islamic countries.

“OIC opened its mission in Afghanistan; this will pave the way for the improvement of Afghanistan’s relations with other Islamic countries,” Muttaqi said.

Muttaqi said the OIC’s office would be effective in political cooperation in addition to economic and humanitarian support.

“We believe that this mission will have a good role beside humanitarian cooperation in political issues and will also play a clear role in economic issues,” he said.

Tariq Ali Bakheet, the assistant secretary general for humanitarian and cultural affairs, and the OIC secretary general's special envoy for Afghanistan spoke at the ceremony.

“A fully activated OIC mission in Kabul ... is poised to assume an effective role in the delivery of humanitarian and development aid of the OIC," said Tariq Ali Bakheet.

“With God’s mercy, the OIC has inaugurated its office in Kabul,” said Muhammad Saeed Al-Ayash, the Director General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) office in Afghanistan.

The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs pledged that the Islamic Emirate would cooperate with the OIC’s mission in its operation in Afghanistan.
