Spin Boldak-Chaman Crossing Has Been Reopened

The Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing has been reopened as a result of negotiations between Islamic Emirate officials and Pakistani authorities.

The security authorities of Chaman said that following a meeting with the Islamic Emirate's representatives, they had decided to open this crossing under certain conditions.

"Some decisions were made conditionally at a meeting with the Afghan authorities. The military and civilian committee members decided to open the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing to traffic and traders,” said Abdul Hamid Ziri, the deputy commissioner for Chaman.

However, local Kandahar officials disputed the conditional opening of the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing, saying that both sides have agreed to cooperate in order to address the issues at this crossing.

"No conditions have been set, the conditions have not even been discussed,” said Abdul Shakur Haqqani, director of foreign affairs of Kandahar.

Meanwhile, residents of both sides are happy with the reopening of the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing and they demand it remains open.

“This crossing should not be politicized in the future and this door should be kept open to the people and traffic,” said Bismillah, a resident of Chaman.

“We are very happy that the door opened today for the people. Some people were stuck on both sides of the crossing,” said Amanullah Durokhshan, a resident of Kandahar.

Last Sunday, the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing was closed when an unidentified individual attacked Pakistani border guards, leaving one soldier dead and two others injured.
