5th Trade Session Held Between Herat and Iran's Razavi Khorasan Province

The fifth session of a trade relations meeting between Herat and Iran's Khurasan Rizwi province was held on Tuesday in Herat city.

Representatives of the private sector from both sides attended the meeting to discuss the enhancement of trade on the border.

Razavi Khorasan province of Iran is located alongside the border with Afghanistan’s Herat province.

The meeting was the first since the Islamic Emirate came into power.

“I hope in this meeting we can make some practical progress as there have been political changes in Afghanistan,” said Abdullah Dashti, deputy head of Commerce and Investment.

The meeting discussed bilateral cooperations related to transit, gas, fuel, industry, and agriculture.

“We have a special program of assessment. We will make contacts monthly with Afghanistan and the issues which are not implemented will be assessed within the format of a joint commission,” said Amir Raza Rajwi, head of the department of commerce and mines of  Razavi Khorasan.

Local officials in Herat said they support such dialogues.

“The local government of Herat promises to remain supportive of any step you are planning to take forward,” said Hamidullah Mutawakil, a spokesman for the Herat governor.

A major part of Afghanistan’s exports and imports are conducted through Islam Qala port, which borders on the Razavi Khorasan province of Iran.
