Decision on Afghan Seat at UN Postponed: Faiq

The Chargé d'Affaires of the Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the UN, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, said the UN credentials committee has postponed the decision on whether the Islamic Emirate can send a UN ambassador to New York for a second time.

According to Faiq, the current Chargé d'Affaires of Afghanistan, Myanmar and Libya will continue representing the countries.

“The UN credentials committee has not made the decision on whether to give credentials to the Taliban in the UN and it postponed the decision about Afghanistan, Myanmar and Libya,” Faiq said.

The Qatar-based Political Office of the Islamic Emirate, Suhail Shaheen, urged the UN to give the seat to the caretaker government of Afghanistan.

“The Islamic Emirate should be recognized and the Afghanistan seat should be given to the current government in Afghanistan,” said Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the political office.

The political analysts give various opinions in this regard.

“A representative can defend the interest of the country and make relations with the world and also be included in approval the approval of important decisions,” said Aziz Maarij, a former diplomat.

"If Afghanistan wants to take its seat, it should adjust itself with other countries, which means to reopen girls schools," said Toreq Farhadi, a former diplomat.
The Islamic Emirate has appointed Suhail Shaheen as the permanent representative-designate of the Islamic Emirate to the UN.

Afghanistan currently lacks an official representative at the UN.
