The Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Markus Potzel has said that his “appeal would be for more Western states to be represented here again.”

Potzel made the remarks in an interview with the RND (RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland).

He suggested that it was easier to assess the situation in Afghanistan when being present in the country.

Potzel added that it shouldn't be forgotten that Germany and other Western nations also had interests in Afghanistan.

“Opening embassies does not have to go hand in hand with recognition of the Taliban regime,” he said.

Analysts meanwhile said that recent attacks in Kabul might have reduced the willingness of other countries to open their diplomatic offices in Afghanistan.

“The attacks that were conducted on the embassies of Russia, Pakistan and a Chinese hotel, will not encourage other countries to put their diplomats at risk,” said Torek Farhadi, a political analyst.

“Diplomatic relations have been ensured with other countries. In this regard, the governments would finally recognize the Islamic Emirate,” said Aziz Maarij, a former diplomat.

The Islamic Emirate called for the reopening of embassies for the improvement of relations with the international community.

“In this regard, I would say that yes it can be effective in improvement and extension of relations and can pave the ground for resolving issues and it should be followed,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.

The Islamic Emirate has yet to be recognized by any world countries but the embassies of China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Qatar, Turkey and other countries have been reopened in Kabul.
