US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at an event at Chicago University on Friday said that the United States has not seen an upsurge in terrorism coming out of Afghanistan, reiterating that his country is able “to get to” them.
“We’ve not seen an upsurge in terrorism coming out of Afghanistan,” Blinken said. “In fact, we’ve demonstrated that to the extent that terrorists and there and being harbored there, we’re able to actually get at them, as we were able to do with Zawahiri.”
The Islamic Emirate said that the current government will not allow the use of Afghan soil against any other countries in the world.
“Currently, security is ensured in Afghanistan. Borders are protected. The Islamic Emirate wants good relations with the countries,” said Bilal Karimi, a spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.
Blinken also pointed out at recent bans on women’s education and work, and said “the international community, not just the United States, said we expected of them, starting with making sure that they were actually protecting the rights of all Afghans, including women and girls.”
“That has been a dramatic step backwards, and we’re working to deal with that as best we can now,” he added.
An analyst, Atif Mukhtar, suggested that the United States should start talks with Afghanistan.
“In the current situation, the US should open the negotiations path for Afghanistan as it is in favor of both Countries,” said Mukhtar.
The US Department of State said that US President Biden ended the longest war in American history, and the result of that is that “there will not be future generations of Americans going off to fight in Afghanistan.”
