The delegation from Pakistan that visited Kabul on Tuesday discussed issues of terrorism in the region, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

A senior delegation of Pakistan led by the Minister of Defense of Pakistan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, arrived and met with the Islamic Emirate's first deputy PM of the Economy, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, at the palace with other senior officials of the Afghan caretaker government.

“Matters relating to the growing threat of terrorism in the region, particularly by TTP and ISKP came under discussion,” the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “The two sides agreed to collaborate to effectively address the threat of terrorism posed by various entities and organizations.”

Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields to further enhance the fraternal relations between the two countries.

“In my opinion, the only important issue in this visit was to earn the support of the Islamic Emirate on how to prevent the TTP because Pakistan always makes this claim,” said Tahir Khan, a Pakistani journalist.

After the meeting with Mullah Baradar, a detailed working meeting was held between the Pakistani delegation and the Afghan side, he said.

Acing Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, acting Minister of Defense Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, and the head of the intelligence department Mullah Abdul Haq Wasiq, were present in the meeting, according to Mujahid.

“There was a clear and detailed discussion on the security concerns of both sides, the drone flights over our area, and the activities of the opposition militants,” Mujahid said.

“Their direct negotiations with the officials of the Islamic Emirate helps them a lot alleviate the problems that exist between the two countries but it can never be enough for the concerns that Pakistan has regarding Afghanistan,” said Barna Salehi, an international relations analyst.

“Their main purpose was that security issues exist on the table of Afghanistan and Pakistan, which includes a discussion of security issues and then trade and social issues,” said Sayed Jawad Sijadi, a university instructor.

According to Mujahid, discussions were also held on commercial and economic relations between the two countries, the problems of traveling along the border, and the problems of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

However, after the delegation left Kabul, Islamabad closed the gate of Torkham for passengers and commercial transit.
